What exactly could their objectives be in rounding up the sutras?

Goku: I just thought since the sutras seem like real important stuff, I suppose it'll be Bad if they got taken.

Hakkai: I have heard of their existence at least, but as for the details...
Sanzo: Well, originally speaking, details regarding the Tenchi Kaigen Kyoumon are not told to anyone except successors of Sanzo.
Besides the Maten Kyoumon and Seiten Kyoumon that I hold, three others -- "Uten", "Muten" and "Kouten" -- exist to make up the Tenchi Kaigen Kyoumon.
Sanzo: The chosen "Protectors" of these five sutras -- they are the "Sanzo-houshi".
Maten Kyoumon - Controller of "Evilness" and "Yin"
Seiten Kyoumon - Controller of "Holiness" and "Yang"
Sanzo: Maten Kyoumon holds the power to purify evil, while the other sutras are similarly equipped with their respective unique abilities.
Muten Kyoumon - Controller of "Death" and "Nothingness"

If the five were brought together, one could not even imagine what sort of things would happen.
This is why the Sanzo-houshi make an effort to consciously scatter to different lands.

Hakkai: I see, so that's the reason why there is no Sanzo-houshi Union.
Gojyo: ...Is it ok to have that namaguza bouzu holding -two- of such dangerous stuff?
Goku: So that means the Remarkable Thing is not the Sanzo-houshi but the sutras

Namagusa bouzu is to the effect of saying "corrupt/worldly monk", for those who aren't familiar with this term. (Well -I- certainly haven't heard this phrase in ages!)
For those who didn't know (e.g. me...), try flipping a dictionary and you will find that "filbert" is also known as hazelnut. Which quickly becomes amusing as an imagery of a thesaurus-checking Minekura-sensei ("Let's see, Hazel... ...nut. Filbert. Perfect.") pops to mind. ...Or not.
And just to make this endnotes actually resemble something useful, let me try to give the meaning of the first kanji of the 2 newly-known sutras:
Like "Evil" is to Maten (魔),
and "Holy" is to Seiten (聖),
"Nothing" defines Muten (無),
now,
Uten (有) means to "Exist" or "Possess",
and Kouten (恒) denotes "Eternity".
